Visitors!

We have had lots of dear friends (and family) stop by to visit this last month. Some traveled by plane, some by car, others by train! We have had so much fun catching up- mostly around the counter eating Ron's famous pancakes. Rosie has had a great time- she's currently napping... and has been for most of the morning. Our social butterfly is exhausted!

March Madness!

March only brings one thing to the Eckert household.... MADNESS! You might even say we're fanatical ( well, some more than others). We have our picks, jerseys, facepaint, and appetizers ready to go. We sing, "One Shining Moment" with tears in our eyes when it's all over. A certain someone has even been known to take a vacation day on this Thursday in March! Rosie has done her first team picks. She only advanced the teams that start with the letter "B" because it is also the first letter in "banana," her favorite food. As for Mommy... I went the the library yesterday and stocked up on magazines and cookbooks, so I am all set. Go Bruins!

One Dog's Trash Is Another Bird's Treasure

This is off the subject of my usual Rosie, but still worth sharing. We have an urban bird (we think she's a Robin) building a little nest around an old phone wire outside our back door. We have been watching her methodically bring little bits and pieces to build her home. We were curious as to if her eggs had been laid yet, so while she was away this evening, Ron brought a ladder over so that we could look into her nest (we would never provoke fear in her once she is sitting on her eggs or her babies have been born, but we were pretty sure the eggs were not there yet). Like we thought, she has yet to lay her eggs. What we were surprised by, however, was the material of which most of her nest is made up of.... yes, there is a lot of twigs, sticks, and leaves.... but there is also a lot of...... WRIGLEY'S HAIR!!!! What I work so hard to sweep, vacuum, swiffer, mop up is actually something that this little bird needs! I can attest to the fact that Wrigs is quite soft. His hair probably would make a wonderful pillow for a baby bird.

Keep Looking UP!

Rosie is constantly teaching me things. It's funny how little I teach her! I look at her rolling around, picking things up, putting EVERYTHING in her mouth.... and I really didn't teach her how to do any of these things. She just does it. Growth and development are miracles of God. Yet, Rosie teaches me all of the time. She teaches me that bananas are worth screaming in delight over. She reminds me that Wrigley's main purpose on this earth is not to annoy me, and that he can be quite cute and obedient.... sometimes. She has taught me to appreciate early mornings, and she has taught me to look up! Ron and I frequent Peet's Coffee at least once a week. We have been going to the same one for years. One day I was standing in line with Rosie and she kept throwing her head back. She was determined to look up at the ceiling. If you have ever held a baby who is arching their back- they can be quite hard to hold. After a moment of frustration, I finally raised my own head up to see what she was so focused on. The ceiling of our beloved coffee shop is BEAUTIFULLY painted. It reminds me of something I might see in Italy (if I had ever been :) I have never bothered to look up.. and it takes the curiosity, un-hurriedness, and awe of a 6 MONTH OLD to teach me what I need to learn in a day. So, "Keep looking up! Don't miss it" Rosie says!

A few weeks ago, our family had the amazing experience of having our pictures taken by a truly amazing photographer, Chris Humphreys. Ron and I have gotten to know Chris through camp- and have since been privileged to be at several weddings that he has shot. He and his wife, Katie, are incredible people, and have an ability to capture truly sweet moments on camera. He is versatile in that he can capture the most amazing look on a child's face when they get up on skis for the first time at camp- then turn around and capture the perfect moments between couples at a wedding. Is Rosie clapping? You be the judge. It sure seems that she is clapping with joy for Daddy's amazing tummy-drum performance! We can't get enough of this little one!
