I LOVE Minnesota. I always tell Ron that we should move there. His eyes kind of glaze over and he looks at me and says, "You've never experienced winter in MN, Heather. You wouldn't survive."
We did get to experience fall in Minnesota, however, when we went for Thanksgiving this year! It was cold and it snowed on us while we were running a turkey trot on Thanksgiving morning, so I will call it a successful winter experience!
We had a great time! The 5 of us flew in a few days early and explored Minneapolis before heading up to Steve and Lori's house in St. Cloud. The Flagstaff brothers flew into town as well, so ALL 5 Eckerts and most of their families were all together in one place. We took over the Holidome in St. Cloud that had an indoor pool, volleyball court, mini golf and arcade that Ron remembers from his childhood. When we walked in, we found that they haven't changed a thing! It's still pretty much the same as it was in the 70's.
As to be expected, we had a wonderful time gathered together. We mostly ate and talked and celebrated, as you can imagine. The girls LOVED playing with their cousins. They decided that Uncle Steve and Aunt Lori's basement was the coolest because it had an entire wall of kids books from when Aunt Lori was a classroom teacher (Rosie) and a huge collection of Allison's old Barbies (Sadie). The only bummer, and it was a major major bummer, came when the entire family was hit with the stomach flu. We all dropped one by one, like flies. Our 5 got hit hard. Rosie first, then me, then Sadie (on the plane... never want to experience that again... ever) and then Ron.... Blessed Ron... got us all off the plane, home, tucked in bed, and then he hit the deck (or the porcelain.)
Only Barnes and Ron's brother Doug didn't get sick. I'm calling Doug Iron Man from here on out.
