At the tail end of Spring Break we took the kids up to Santa Barbara to see the zoo and spend the night in a hotel. It was a spontaneous trip and we didn't really plan too much... just jumped in the car and left. It was just what we all needed. We ate at mom's fav sandwich shop in Montecito... I thought maybe my tastes would have changed, but it turns out that salami on sourdough with mayo and iceberg lettuce is just delicious at 36 as it was at 19. We swam in the pool and ate at Brophy's Brothers and walked all around the town. We drove up in the hills and I made them pledge their allegiance to Westmont. The trip was so fun. One of the many highlights had to do with Sadie and her sometimes wildly inappropriate humor. We sat and watched the gorillas for quite a while at the zoo. While we were watching, one of the gorillas,
there's just no easy way to say it,
pooped in his own hand.
The girls lost. their. minds.
Later, Sadie was sitting in the backseat looking out the window, contemplating life as she sometimes does, and said this:
Sadie: "Hey, Dad? Remember when the gorilla went potty in his own hand?"
Ron: "Yes, Sades. That was pretty gross, huh?"
Sadie: "Ya. Remind me never to shake hands with a gorilla."
